Congresswoman Nancy Mace Responds To Arrest Of Eric Bowman
Charleston, S.C. August 20, 2025 – Following the release of disturbing video evidence showing Sullivan’s Island resident, Eric Bowman, brutally beating a female victim, Bowman has now been arrested by Sullivan’s Island Police Department for Domestic Violence in the First Degree, one of the most serious violent crimes under South Carolina law.
Congresswoman Nancy Mace issued the following statement:
“Violent criminals belong behind bars. Eric Bowman’s arrest today is an important step toward protecting victims, holding violent criminals accountable and making our community safer. We commend Sullivan’s Island Chief of Police, Glenn Meadows, for his decisive action to protect the victim and remove a violent offender from the streets of South Carolina. Sullivan’s Island is safer today than it was yesterday.”
Mace emphasized domestic violence is a very serious public safety issue which fuels violent crime across South Carolina:
- Domestic violence frequently escalates into aggravated assault, sexual assault, or homicide.
- Repeat offenders often terrorize their victims over time.
- Exposure to violence in the home creates generational cycles of crime and violence.
- Underreporting conceals the true scale of the crisis, leaving offenders free to reoffend.
“Law and order means prosecuting violent offenders to the fullest extent of the law,” Mace said. “Every criminal taken off South Carolina streets makes our communities safer. South Carolina must send a clear message: committing violence is a crime, and it will be prosecuted.”
Bowman was one of the predators named in Mace’s February 10, 2025 floor speech. In response, she has introduced legislation to strengthen penalties, expand victim protections, and close loopholes which allow criminals to reoffend.
