Congresswoman Nancy Mace Introduced Childcare Bill

This week we introduced the Childcare Worker Opportunity Act, alongside Senator Mike Lee and Senator Katie Britt, aims to address the child care crisis in Washington, D.C. by repealing overly restrictive regulations. Currently, D.C. requires child care workers to have a degree, certificate, or specific college credits, which has led to a shortage of workers and skyrocketing costs for families. This bill would remove these educational requirements, allowing experienced caregivers to work without unnecessary credentials, thereby increasing the available workforce and potentially lowering costs for parents. The proposed changes are expected to provide immediate relief to families struggling with child care expenses, which often exceed $2,600 per month and have forced many parents to reduce work hours or quit their jobs. By easing these regulations, the bill seeks to make child care more accessible and affordable, not just in D.C. but potentially setting a precedent for nationwide reform.
