Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been back home in the Lowcountry, meeting with the people I promised to speak for in Washington. I’ve spoken with business leaders, families, workers, and others to get a sense of what’s important to the folks I represent. I am your voice in our nation’s capital and I always want to hear from you.

One of the main reasons I came to Congress was to hold Washington accountable to you, the American people. More specifically, I wanted to ensure the people of the Lowcountry were heard in the halls of power where they've been so often ignored.

My most important duty is to help the people of the Lowcountry and I promised no one would work harder to meet the needs of our district.

Over the last three months, I've stood ready to reach across the aisle to deliver much-needed support to the millions of Americans who've been impacted by COVID-19. I've worked to get our kids back in school, our parents back to their jobs and businesses, and vaccines into the arms of South Carolina’s elderly and vulnerable populations.

When I came to Congress, I told you I'd be an independent voice, willing to work with anyone to do what's right for the Lowcountry and for America. I've had a great deal of success in this regard, and I've got the bipartisan legislation to prove it.

After spending time back home with constituents over the last couple of weeks, I returned to Washington and hit the ground running on several bills. I want the work I do to have a visible and valuable impact on the Lowcountry and the nation - from conservation to criminal justice reform to addressing government’s wasteful spending.

I spent this week home in the Lowcountry with entrepreneurs, business leaders, and employees all working around the clock to keep their doors open despite the immense challenges they face with COVID-19. They shared their determination to get past this virus and finally get the country moving again.

This week marked my first 30 days in Congress. While it certainly didn't start off how I would've expected, I've learned a lot already and am hard at work for all of you.
