CONGRESSWOMAN NANCY MACE INTRODUCES ‘NO FUNDS FOR FASCISTS ACT’ TO BLOCK U.S. AID TO GOVERNMENTS CENSORING FREE SPEECH

February 27, 2025

(Washington, D.C., February 27th, 2024) –(Washington, D.C., February 27, 2024) – Congresswoman Nancy Mace has reintroduced the No Funds for Fascists Act to ensure not a single American taxpayer dollar is sent to foreign governments that crush free speech and pressure media platforms to silence dissent.

“History proves that when free speech dies, democracy follows. The UK and Germany are throwing people in jail for ‘offensive’ tweets, while Brazil’s Supreme Court is silencing politicians, journalists—even private citizens—for daring to criticize the government,” said Rep. Nancy Mace. “This is Orwellian madness, and American taxpayers have no business funding it. If these governments want to play speech police, they can do it on their own dime.”

The No Funds for Fascists Act bars U.S. foreign economic assistance, including funds under the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, from being sent to any government that the Secretary of State determines is violating free speech protections outlined in the U.S. Constitution. In 2023, the U.S. handed over $15 million in foreign aid to Germany, where authorities are raiding homes over online insults. In the UK, police are arresting hundreds for so-called “offensive” social media posts. Meanwhile, in Brazil, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes is censoring political critics, dictating what opinions are allowed online.

American tax dollars should never bankroll regimes that silence dissent. This bill puts an end to the madness.
