Congresswoman Nancy Mace Responds To Shocking Domestic Violence Video
Solicitor Scarlett Wilson Tipped Off Abuser and Leaked Evidence to Harm Victim
CHARLESTON, SC - August 18, 2025 - A shocking new video, released with the victim’s consent, shows Sullivan’s Island resident, Eric Bowman, savagely beating a female victim in a brutal domestic violence assault. The footage is undeniable proof of the violence the victim endured.
“This video is hard to watch. It’s gut wrenching,” stated Congresswoman Nancy Mace. “Solicitor Scarlett Wilson’s unethical behavior toward the victim has not gone unnoticed. Wilson and her office should immediately recuse themselves and hand over any and all cases related to this victim to a solicitor who will actually protect victims and prosecute criminals.”
But instead of protecting the victim, 9th Judicial Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson betrayed her:
- Wilson and her Office refused to watch the video evidence when it was provided.
- Wilson and her Office have so far refused to indict Bowman for domestic violence.
- Wilson and her Office tipped off Bowman about the existence of the video, without the victim’s knowledge or consent, in an unrelated case where Bowman is accused of stalking (This is documented in writing, date and time stamped by Wilson’s Office).
- Wilson and her Office leaked a private statement made by the victim to law enforcement, she leaked an unfinished account to wife-beater Eric Bowman, as the victim had not even viewed the video footage yet, and leaked it prior to any investigation or charges being filed. This is in direct violation of Rule 5 when disclosing discovery requests prior to a trial or court hearing. There are no charges because the solicitor has so far refused to bring charges. There is no trial because the solicitor has refused to bring charges. There is no current obligation to disclose this information in a future, unrelated case. This gravely unethical behavior puts the victim in harm’s way. (This is documented in writing, date and time stamped by Wilson’s Office).
- Wilson and her Office leaked information about a SLED agent to Bowman; the agent is involved in an open and ongoing investigation at SLED.
- Wilson and her Office lied to the attorney representing the victim.
This conduct cannot be explained away as a “discovery obligation.” Under Rule 5 of the South Carolina Rules of Criminal Procedure, prosecutors must provide defendants with evidence relevant to the case in which they are charged. It does NOT authorize leaking sensitive materials from unrelated matters, nor does it justify giving an abuser advance warning about key evidence or the existence of an ongoing investigation.
By misusing Rule 5, Solicitor Wilson handed an abuser and predator inside information he had no right to receive. This not only violates the victim’s privacy, it undermines the victim’s safety and erodes trust in the judicial process.
South Carolina already faces one of the nation’s worst domestic violence crises. When the top prosecutor in the 9th Judicial Circuit, Scarlett Wilson, tips off abusers and leaks evidence and information, it sends a chilling message:
Victims cannot trust the system meant to protect them.
Congresswoman Nancy Mace today demands:
- A full and immediate state investigation into Wilson’s misconduct.
- Wilson’s immediate removal from all domestic violence prosecutions while under review.
- Removal of any and all cases related to the victim under Wilson’s jurisdiction and reassigned to a solicitor outside of this jurisdiction who actually has a history of prosecuting criminals.
- Reforms to ensure no solicitor can ever use Rule 5 as a weapon against the very people it was designed to protect.
The victim has bravely chosen to release this video to the public, ensuring that both the violence itself, and the betrayal by Solicitor Wilson, cannot be hidden.
The victim stated publicly when the video was released, “No woman ever thinks this will be her life - until it is. What Eric Bowman did to me was horrific. Men like him repeat the same cycle of abuse and control and they don’t stop on their own. Unless someone stops them, they just keep destroying lives."
“It feels like [the solicitor] cares more about pandering to power brokers than protecting victims,” added the victim in her public comments.
Bowman is one of the predators Mace revealed in her February 10, 2025 floor speech. The behavior of the individuals in Mace’s floor speech forced her to draft dozens of bills to protect women and kids.
