Congresswoman Nancy Mace Thanks Tri County S.P.E.A.K.S. for Their Support, Highlights Surge in Hotline Calls After House Floor Speech

March 12, 2025

(Charleston, SC, March 12 2025) – In the week following Congresswoman Nancy Mace’s speech on the House floor, calls to the Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S. 24-hour crisis hotline jumped by 47 percent.

More survivors are speaking out, and more are seeking help—a stark reminder of how many suffer in silence. Today, Congresswoman Mace is thanking Tri County S.P.E.A.K.S. (TCS) for their unwavering support and decades of work standing with survivors.

“As a survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault, and voyeurism, I know how terrifying it is to come forward. I know what it’s like to live in fear, to wonder if justice will ever come, and to carry the weight of trauma every single day,” said Mace. “I refuse to be silent, and I refuse to let other survivors feel alone. No one should suffer in the dark.”

Tri County S.P.E.A.K.S. released the following statement:

On behalf of Tri County S.P.E.A.K.S. (TCS), its Board of Directors commends Congresswoman Nancy Mace for her courage, strength, and bravery in publicly telling her own story, denouncing her abusers, and making credible allegations many other girls and women have been victims of sexual abuse and violence. For over 50 years, TCS has provided much-needed services for sexual violence survivors and advocated on their behalf. We know it takes great courage for survivors to disclose a sexual violence experience and it is essential to ‘Start by Believing’ survivors when they come forward.

We were pleased to learn that the State Law Enforcement Division is investigating these charges, and we strongly believe that a prompt, thorough investigation is in everyone’s best interest.

We also commend Congresswoman Mace for continuing to raise awareness about resources for sexual assault survivors. In the week following her speech on the House floor, call volume to the Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S. 24-hour hotline increased by 47 percent. Her webpage includes multiple resources for sexual assault survivors, including federal and state community resources.”

Mace has been vocal about the need for more support and protections for survivors. Since her announcement sharing national and local survivor resources, even more victims have come forward.

The numbers don’t lie. This crisis is real, and the silence around it has been deafening for far too long. More survivors are reaching out for help, and we need to make damn sure they get it,” Mace added. “This isn’t just a personal fight—it’s a fight for every survivor who has been ignored, dismissed, or left behind. And I’m not backing down.

Congresswoman Mace remains committed to pushing for stronger protections for survivors, holding offenders accountable, and ensuring survivors know they have a voice in Washington. Her official webpage includes federal and state resources for survivors, making sure help is always available.

She’s also drafted over a dozen bills to protect women and girls.
