Congresswoman Nancy Mace Votes to Pass the SAVE Act
Supporting President Trump’s Order to Restore Election Integrity
(Washington, D.C., April 10, 2025) – Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) voted to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, legislation restoring commonsense election integrity measures by requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
“In America, the right to vote belongs to citizens—period. The Left may not like that fact, but that’s the law,” said Congresswoman Mace. “This bill shuts down their attempts to flood our system, erase the line between citizen and non-citizen, and tip the scales permanently in their favor. The SAVE Act is about protecting the vote of every American citizen. I supported it—and every member of Congress should.”
Since President Biden took office, more than 4.6 million illegal immigrants have been released into the U.S., with an additional 1.8 million known “got-a-ways.” In many states, these individuals are eligible for driver’s licenses and benefits—providing a backdoor to voter registration through agencies like the DMV and welfare offices. While federal law prohibits non-citizens from voting in federal elections, it currently does not require states to verify citizenship when individuals register to vote.
The SAVE Act, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21), closes this dangerous loophole. The legislation requires individuals registering to vote in federal elections to provide documentary proof of U.S.
citizenship in person. It also directs states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls and grants access to DHS and SSA databases to verify eligibility. The bill further empowers citizens to file civil suits against election officials who register non-citizens and imposes penalties for noncompliance.
“This is exactly the kind of common-sense policy President Trump is pushing forward with his latest executive order,” Mace continued. “Other countries like India, Brazil, and Germany already have stronger protections in place than the United States. That’s unacceptable. The American people deserve elections they can trust.”
The SAVE Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives today and now heads to the Senate.
