House Approves Mace-Led Criminal Justice Reform

February 24, 2021

Marks first bill passed by House just 50 days after swearing in

Washington - Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) on Wednesday lauded the House passage of her bipartisan bill to allow federal inmates to communicate confidentially over email with their attorneys:

"Those in federal custody can communicate privately with their lawyers over the phone, through the mail, and in person, yet this same confidentiality isn’t applied to email communications. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this issue as prisons across the country bar lawyers from visiting their incarcerated clients.

“We live in a digital world and our laws should reflect that. Our bill brings due process rights to the 21st century and I’m pleased to see it pass the House with overwhelming bipartisan support.”
