Mace And Gill Join President Trump To Crack Down On Lawless Cities After Los Angeles Riots
New bill would block federal funds from any city who defunds police, refuses federal help, or allows mob rule
(Washington, D.C., June 11, 2025) – After violent riots turned Los Angeles into a war zone and President Trump deployed U.S. Marines to restore order, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Congressman Brandon Gill (R-TX) introduced the Lawless Cities Accountability Act, a hard-hitting bill to pull every last federal dollar from cities who choose mob rule over law and order.
The legislation is a direct response to the chaos in Los Angeles, where far-left politicians stood by as rioters looted businesses, assaulted police, and forced the White House to send in the military to regain control.
“This bill is for every American sick of watching Democrat-run cities collapse under the weight of their own woke policies,” said Congresswoman Mace. “Only in places like California is ICE scarier than MS-13. If you defund your police, reject federal help, and let criminals torch your streets, you’re not getting a dime from Washington.”
Congressman Brandon Gill (TX-26), issued the following statement in his role as co-lead on this legislation:
“I proudly back the men and women in blue who place their lives on the line every day to keep American communities safe,” said Congressman Gill. “We must do everything in our power to equip them to do their job of restoring law and order amidst violence and chaos—to promote anything otherwise is profoundly un-American. I am proud to lead this effort with Congresswoman Mace to slash any funds for states that champion lawlessness and force our law enforcement heroes to stand on the sidelines.”
The bill codifies President Trump’s 2020 crackdown on anarchist jurisdictions, giving the U.S. Attorney General full authority to label any city or state “lawless” if it:
- Blocks police from stopping riots or violent unrest
- Pulls law enforcement out of key areas or facilities
- Defunds or cripples its law enforcement agencies
- Rejects federal law enforcement assistance during widespread violence
If designated a lawless jurisdiction, a city would be cut off from federal funds for at least 180 days, and longer if they don’t restore law and order.
With the Lawless Cities Accountability Act, Mace and Gill are drawing a clear line in the sand: If you embrace chaos, you lose the cash. No more federal handouts to failed cities who turn their backs on the rule of law.
