Rep. Mace Submits Several Critical Lowcountry Priorities to the Water Resources Development Act

Rep. Nancy Mace released the following statement after the submission of several projects that would update the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) to reflect multiple critical focus areas for the Lowcountry.
Mace’s office submitted 14 projects, among the highest submissions of any office this Congress. These policies and environmental infrastructure proposals focused on three main areas:
- Flooding
- Port and harbor improvements
- Water quality and sanitation
“For years, we all know with the slightest rain, certain areas in our district flood. We’ve been thrashed by multiple hurricanes and compound flooding, damaging homes, businesses, civic centers, churches, and some of the most iconic and important landmarks in Charleston and Beaufort, not to mention all the growth and development over the years exacerbating our flooding issues,” said Rep. Mace. “Research shows vulnerable areas of historic and cultural significance can be rehabilitated and restored while making them more resilient against future flooding with drainage, pumps, and environmental infrastructure as well as changes to policy. It is more critical now than ever to make meaningful adjustments to these programs and projects so we do not continue to see the severe damage from flooding we have had in the past. Our care for our ports, waterways, and harbors directly supports our economy, the environment, our cities, constituents and all who will benefit from our beautiful coastal region for years if not centuries.”
