Rep. Mace Urges Pelosi to Lift Mask Mandate on House Floor

May 18, 2021

Washington, D.C. – In line with recent CDC guidance, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) and over two dozen colleagues sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging her to end the mask mandate for Members of Congress on the House Floor.

"CDC guidance states fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting except where required by governmental or workplace mandate,"wrote the Members."It is time to update our own workplace regulations.

"Members of Congress have operated under the strictest of COVID-19 precautions for over a year now, fundamentally altering the way we do the people's business and limiting our constituents access to us,"Mace said."It's time for Nancy Pelosi to accept the science and let us get back to normal. We were elected to do a job, it’s time to get to work to lead our country through COVID-19."

You can read the full letter HERE or below:

Speaker Pelosi,

In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance released on May 13, 2021 we urge you to immediately return to normal voting procedures and end mandatory mask requirements in the House of Representatives.

CDC guidance states fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting except where required by governmental or workplace mandate. It is time to update our own workplace regulations. Every member of Congress has had the opportunity to be vaccinated, and you have indicated about 75 percent have taken advantage of this opportunity.

The United States Congress must serve as a model to show the country we can resume normal life through vaccination. Let’s follow the science and get back to work.
