Rep. Nancy Mace and Sen. Lindsey Graham Re-introduce Bill to Protect Parris Island

January 23, 2025

Preserving Its Mission of Making Marines

(January 23, 2025, Washington, D.C.) — Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) and Senator Lindsey Graham re-introduced legislation in the U.S. House and Senate to protect the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, South Carolina. The bill prohibits the use of federal funds to close or realign the depot, ensuring it continues its mission of "Making Marines" and preserving its historic legacy as a pillar of the Lowcountry and the nation’s military readiness.

“This bill is about putting South Carolina first, standing up for our military, and ensuring the Lowcountry continues to lead in making Marines for generations to come,” said Congresswoman Mace. “We are committed to keeping South Carolina at the forefront of military excellence and protecting the Parris Island legacy.”

Located in the heart of South Carolina's Lowcountry, Parris Island has been the training ground for millions of Marines for over a century. It not only serves as a vital component of the nation’s military infrastructure but also plays a critical role in South Carolina’s economy and identity.
