Rep. Nancy Mace Becomes Final Signature To Force House Vote On Major Richard Star Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 16, 2026) – Congresswoman Nancy Mace announced today she signed the Major Richard Star Act Discharge Petition, becoming the 218th and final signature needed to reach the threshold for a House floor vote.

“These veterans came home carrying wounds they will live with for the rest of their lives. They sacrificed for this country, and they earned every benefit promised to them. Washington has no business nickel-and-diming veterans who were willing to put their lives on the line for ours,” said Congresswoman Mace. “We signed this discharge petition because enough is enough. Combat-injured veterans have waited long enough. It's time to bring the Major Richard Star Act to the floor and let Congress vote.”

The Major Richard Star Act would allow veterans with combat-related disabilities to receive their full retirement pay concurrently with their disability compensation, without reduction. Under current law, veterans who receive Combat-Related Special Compensation alongside retirement pay face an offset, penalizing them for wounds earned in combat. The bill ends this penalty for all veterans with combat-related disabilities, including those with fewer than 20 years of creditable service.

Congresswoman Mace has been a consistent voice for the men and women who serve. Combat-injured veterans have waited long enough for the benefits they earned through their service and sacrifice. With the path to a House vote now clear, Congress must put the Major Richard Star Act on the floor and give these veterans the vote they deserve.
