Rep. Nancy Mace Introduces Bill to Pull the Plug on Taxpayer-Funded Gender Experimentation
Mace draws the line: American taxpayers will not be a funding source for gender ideology nonsense
WASHINGTON, D.C., (August 19, 2026) – Today, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) introduced the Terminating Radical Attempts to Negate Sex Through Government Research Act, the TRANS Government Research Act. The bill is simple: no federal dollars to conduct, support, or fund research on gender-related medical treatments. Not for surgeries. Not for hormones. Not for puberty blockers.
"Washington has been writing checks to study how to permanently destroy a healthy body in the name of gender ideology, all on your dime," said Congresswoman Mace. "It stops now. Sex is binary. Male or female. It is not a spectrum. It is not a social construct. Science settled this long before Washington decided to spend our money pretending otherwise. American taxpayers are done bankrolling the delusion."
This legislation permanently blocks the federal government from spending taxpayer dollars on research designed to negate biological sex. The TRANS Government Research Act is a direct response to the weaponization of federal research funding by gender ideology activists seeking to replace biological reality with delusion.
The bill covers the full scope of gender transition procedures: surgical procedures including hysterectomies, phalloplasties, vaginoplasties, subcutaneous mastectomies, and facial feminization surgeries; exogenous hormone treatments including testosterone and estrogen; and puberty-blocking drugs including gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists and synthetic drugs suppressing estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone production or delaying pubertal development.
The bill also codifies biological definitions of "male," "female," and "sex" based on reproductive systems, specifying sex is determined by whether an individual's reproductive system naturally produces, transports, and utilizes eggs or sperm for fertilization.
"The American taxpayer is not a piggy bank for gender ideology," Mace added. "If you want to study how to butcher a healthy body in the name of gender nonsense, do it on your own dime, not the American taxpayer's."
