Rep. Nancy Mace Issues Statement on SCOTUS Ruling Upholding Birthright Citizenship for Illegal Aliens
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 30, 2026) — Congresswoman Nancy Mace issued the following statement after the Supreme Court upheld birthright citizenship protections for children of illegal immigrants:
"Birthright citizenship has been abused for far too long, and today the Supreme Court chose to let this abuse continue.
"It was never meant to reward illegal immigration. It was never meant to be a backdoor into American citizenship. The Supreme Court got this one wrong, plain and simple.
"American citizenship is a privilege, not a prize handed out for breaking our laws.
"This loophole has been exploited for decades, and today the justices decided to keep it wide open instead of closing it for good.
"This is exactly why we introduced a constitutional amendment to end birthright citizenship and close the anchor baby loophole for GOOD. It has cost American taxpayers billions of dollars, and they are rightfully tired of footing the bill.
"Americans deserve a Constitution which protects citizenship, upholds the rule of law, and puts American citizens FIRST."
