Rep. Nancy Mace Issues Statement On Swalwell And Gonzales' Plans To Resign

April 14, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Apr. 14, 2026) – Congresswoman Nancy Mace issued the following statement on Reps. Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales announcing their plans to resign from Congress following serious sexual misconduct allegations:

"Two down, more to go.

"Swalwell and Gonzales made the right call, but walking out the door does not erase the disgusting acts they are being accused of and the women they hurt.

"Multiple women have accused Eric Swalwell of sexual misconduct, including rape. Left bleeding and bruised. One says she was choked until she lost consciousness. Nude photos sent to women who never asked for them. A pattern of targeting young women, sexual assault, and inappropriate texts.

"We commend every one of them for coming forward. It takes guts. These women are brave.

"Regina Santos-Aviles took her own life. Her son will grow up without his mother. Gonzales gets to walk away. She didn’t. A second staffer accused him of sexual texts, pressing her for nude photos, and asking what she wears to bed.

"These are the men who were allowed to serve in the halls of Congress, entrusted with power and used it to prey on women.

“But we are not finished. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick and Cory Mills still need to go.

"Congress is not above the law. It never was. They need to resign immediately or face expulsion."
