Rep. Nancy Mace Reintroduces Bill to Crack Down on Nonconsensual Pornography

March 28, 2025

(Washington, D.C., March 28th 2025) – Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) reintroduced the Increased Accountability for Nonconsensual Pornography Act of 2025, legislation strengthening protections for victims of voyeurism and nonconsensual pornography—issues continuing to be overlooked in our laws despite growing threats to women and girls online.

The bill increases the maximum civil penalty for offenders from $150,000 to $500,000 and broadens the legal definition of explicit conduct—making it easier for victims to sue and hold perpetrators accountable.

“I'm not just a legislator on this issue—I’m a survivor,” said Congresswoman Mace. “I’ve experienced the trauma of being violated and exploited, and I know how helpless it feels when the law doesn’t have your back. It’s time we bring our laws—and our institutions—into the modern age.”

Mace’s bill amends the civil provisions enacted under the 2022 omnibus to better reflect the reality of how predators operate today—especially through hidden cameras, deepfakes, and social media.

“It’s unacceptable the Violence Against Women Act hasn’t been updated to fully address the threats women face in the digital age,” Mace continued. “Women are being stalked, harassed, filmed without consent, and humiliated online—and Washington still wants to pretend it’s 1994. Enough. It’s time to bring VAWA into the 21st century and hold perverts and predators accountable.”

The original version of the bill failed to receive a vote in the last Congress. Mace is urging House leadership to act swiftly this time.

“Both parties like to talk about supporting women—here’s their chance to prove it. Let’s do more than talk. Let’s act.”
