Rep. Nancy Mace Reintroduces Legislation To Expand AI Training Across The Federal Government
Bipartisan bill ensures federal workforce is prepared to lead in AI, protect citizens, and modernize government services
(Washington, D.C., June 6, 2025) – Yesterday, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-1) reintroduced the AI Training Extension Act of 2025, a commonsense, bipartisan bill aimed at modernizing the federal workforce through expanded access to artificial intelligence (AI) training.
Building on the Artificial Intelligence Training for the Acquisition Workforce Act, this bill broadens AI education to include a wider range of federal employees, such as supervisors, managers, and frontline staff in data and technology roles.
This is Congresswoman Mace’s latest bipartisan initiative as Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation to bring the Federal government’s use of technology into the 21st century.
“As AI transforms the way the world works, our federal agencies must be equipped to keep pace,” said Congresswoman Mace. “This bill ensures our workforce has the knowledge, tools, and guardrails to use AI effectively, responsibly, and in service of the American people.”
Representative Shontel Brown, who serves as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation, issued the following statement in her role as co-lead on this legislation:
“I’m proud to co-lead this bipartisan bill to expand AI training across the federal workforce. AI is here to stay—and we must ensure federal employees at every level are trained to use it wisely, safely, and effectively.”
What the AI Training Extension Act does:
- Expands Training Access: Extends AI education to include employees in data, technology, and leadership positions — not just acquisition staff.
- Covers AI Benefits and Risks: Ensures training includes practical use cases, privacy safeguards, security measures, and principles for responsible AI deployment.
- Supports a Cohesive Federal AI Strategy: Aligns training with government-wide standards and directives from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
By updating and expanding federal AI training requirements, the bill strengthens the government’s ability to make informed, ethical, and efficient use of artificial intelligence across departments and services.
