Rep. Nancy Mace Reintroduces Legislation To Modernize The VA With Blockchain Technology

July 10, 2025

Mace Demands Action for America’s Veterans

(Washington, D.C., July 10th, 2025)— Congresswoman Nancy Mace reintroduced the Veterans Affairs Distributed Ledger Innovation Act, aimed at revolutionizing how the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) delivers services to veterans. The bill directs the VA to explore the use of distributed ledger technology (DLT), such as blockchain, to enhance the efficiency, security, and transparency of its outdated systems.

“Our veterans deserve nothing less than the best,” said Congresswoman Mace. “We need to bring the federal government into the 21st century. This legislation paves the way for research into cutting-edge solutions to replace the broken, outdated systems continuing to fail our veterans. We owe it to the men and women willing to lay down their lives for this country to use every tool available to improve theirs.”

The VA currently relies on decades-old legacy systems, many dating back to the 1990s, slow, inefficient, and prone to security vulnerabilities. These systems are a major contributor to delays in benefits claims and appointment scheduling, and they leave veterans’ sensitive personal and medical data exposed to potential cyber threats.

This bill calls for a comprehensive report on how blockchain technology could be integrated into the VA’s infrastructure, with a focus on improving the reliability and accuracy of veterans' benefits claims adjudication, improving accountability in claims handling, and preventing waste, fraud and abuse in VA benefits systems.

House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Mike Bost added his endorsement:

“VA must be an efficient and innovative organization in order to deliver high quality, advanced healthcare and services to veterans,” said Chairman Bost. “As Chairman, I’m working to ensure VA fosters innovation and moves from the Stone Age into the New Age. I’m glad to see my friend and colleague, Rep. Mace, introduce the VA Distributed Ledger Innovation Act, which would study how blockchain technology can modernize and improve the veterans’ benefits claims process.”

This legislation is also endorsed by the Digital Chamber:

“Blockchain technology has the power to meaningfully transform how veterans access their earned benefits by providing greater transparency, security, and efficiency,” said Cody Carbone, CEO of The Digital Chamber. “Given the extraordinary sacrifices our veterans have made, we owe it to them to leverage every innovation available to enhance their quality of life. The Digital Chamber appreciates Congresswoman Mace’s commitment to pioneering forward-thinking solutions that prioritize veterans and we are proud to support the Veterans Affairs Distributed Ledger Innovation Act.”

This bill signals a clear message: America will no longer allow its veterans to be failed by bureaucracy and outdated infrastructure. The time to act is now.
