Rep. Nancy Mace Secures Major Wins For South Carolina In FY27 National Defense Authorization Act Base Text

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jun. 3, 2026) — Today, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC-01) announced she has secured major wins for South Carolina's military installations, servicemembers, and defense research institutions in the base text of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

"South Carolina's military installations are the backbone of our national defense, and this NDAA reflects our commitment to keeping them strong," said Congresswoman Mace. "We secured hundreds of millions for Joint Base Charleston, extended critical funding for MCRD Parris Island, restored services at Naval Hospital Beaufort, and directed more than $35 million to the University of South Carolina for cutting-edge defense research. No one will work harder for our servicemembers, their families, and the entire state of South Carolina."

MAJOR INVESTMENTS FOR SOUTH CAROLINA

  • The FY27 NDAA base text includes a $161,700,000 authorization for a Nuclear Power Training Facility Simulation Expansion at Joint Base Charleston, a critical investment in the future of naval nuclear power training.
  • It also includes extensions of previously authorized funding of $81,690,000 and $85,040,000 for Recruit Barracks at MCRD Parris Island, ensuring South Carolina continues to have the infrastructure needed to train the next generation of United States Marines.

RESTORING SERVICES AT NAVAL HOSPITAL BEAUFORT

  • The FY27 NDAA base text includes a provision to reverse service changes at Naval Hospital Beaufort, fully restoring inpatient, operating, chiropractic, and emergency room services. Servicemembers and their families in the Beaufort area will once again have access to the full range of care they need and deserve.

SOUTH CAROLINA RESEARCH INVESTMENTS

The FY27 NDAA base text includes more than $35 million authorized for defense research at South Carolina institutions across a range of critical national security capabilities:

  • $15,000,000 for Resilient Optimization of Load and Integrated Neuromusculoskeletal Anabolism Research 
  • $10,000,000 for Advanced Composites in Hypersonics and Attritable Aircraft Research
  • $5,000,000 for Standardized Army Battery for Enhanced Performance and Safety
  • $2,500,000 for Talent and Technology for Navy Power Systems 
  • $2,500,000 for Unmanned Logistics for Marine Corps Landing Force Technology

ADDITIONAL DEFENSE INVESTMENTS

The FY27 NDAA base text also includes the following defense funding secured by Congresswoman Mace:

  • $5,000,000 for the USSOCOM Lessons Learned Program, helping Special Operations forces learn from past missions and apply those lessons to future operations.
  • $3,000,000 for a Power Source for Directed Energy Missile Defense Satellite System, supporting the next generation of missile defense technology.

ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS

The FY27 NDAA base text also includes the following provisions championed by Congresswoman Mace:

  • Sec. 1043 — Eastern Regional Range Complex Demonstration Project 
  • Sec. 1101 — Skills-Based Hiring for DoD Civilian Positions 
  • Sec. 1851 — Skills-Based Requirements for Department of Defense Contractor Personnel 
  • Sec. 557 — Modifications to Offense of Wrongful Broadcast or Distribution of Intimate Visual Images Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice 
  • Sec. 738 — Pilot Program on Secure, Mobile Personal Health Record for Members of the Armed Forces 
  • Sec. 735 — Pilot Program to Treat Pregnancy as a Qualifying Event for Enrollment in Tricare Select 
  • Sec. 128 — Authority for Advance Procurement of Components for Ship-to-Shore Connector Class Craft 
  • Sec. 1807 — Report on Primary Aluminum Sector Industrial Base Assessment

The NDAA also includes two directive report language (DRL) for Power and Propulsion Architecture for Large Surface Combatant and V-22 Safety Investments.
