Rep. Nancy Mace Supports $212 Million Investment for US Coast Guard Base Charleston

May 11, 2026

CHARLESTON, S.C. (May 11, 2026) – Today, Congresswoman Nancy Mace announced the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) is moving forward with a $212 million investment for the U.S. Coast Guard Base Charleston.

The funding comes directly from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, legislation Rep. Mace supported, which secured $25 billion for the U.S. Coast Guard. These funds will deliver critical upgrades to medical and dental care, roads, utilities, access control, and waterfront infrastructure at USCG Base Charleston.

"This is a huge win for the men and women of USCG Base Charleston who work to keep our Lowcountry waters safe every single day,” said Congresswoman Mace. “We voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill because we knew it would deliver real results for South Carolina, and this is exactly what we are seeing today. This funding means better medical care, modernized facilities, and a stronger, more capable base. We will always work to ensure federal dollars come back home to South Carolina.”

Vice Admiral Jo-Ann Burdian, commander of Coast Guard Atlantic Area, provided the following statement on the impact of this investment:

"I am excited for the incredible potential these projects have to improve the welfare of our Servicemembers and their families, to homeport our future fleet of Offshore Patrol Cutters and to operationalize the generous investments being made in our Service by the American people," said Vice Admiral Burdian. “Our people are our greatest asset, and everything we do on their behalf, to ensure they are ready, trained and well-supported will enable us to act with clarity, cohesion, and purpose to deliver the outcomes our Nation expects.”

The $212 million investment will be split across two separate contracts:

The first project, valued at $116.7 million, will fund a complete overhaul of Pier Mike and the surrounding waterfront, delivering a modern pier stretching nearly 1,200 feet which can accommodate up to five major Coast Guard cutters. The pier will be fully equipped with power, water, fire protection, sewer, compressed air, and telecommunications utilities. The project also includes extensive dredging, bulkhead replacements in the surrounding area, and 170 new parking spaces to support the base's growing operational needs. This project is expected to be completed by April 2030.

The second project, valued at $95.5 million, will deliver a brand new 30,000 square foot Medical and Dental Facility, ensuring Coast Guard personnel and their families have access to quality care right on base. The project will also deliver a modernized main gate and visitor center, upgraded security fencing, and a redesigned road system to improve how people move through the campus. New telecommunications and stormwater infrastructure will also be put in place to set the base up for future growth. This project is expected to be completed by July 2029.

"USCG Base Charleston is the backbone of our maritime security in the Lowcountry, and this investment ensures it stays this way for generations to come. We will always work to make sure our Coast Guard members and their families have the resources and support they deserve," Mace added.
