Rep. Nancy Mace supports Dorchester County in securing $24.6 million federal grant for infrastructure project
Mace’s support helps launch major upgrades to US-78
(Charleston, S.C., July 18, 2025) — Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) announced today a $24,666,750 FY25 Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant awarded to Dorchester County by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funding will support a major infrastructure upgrade for U.S. Highway 78, enhancing traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and economic development throughout the region. Rep. Nancy Mace’s office submitted a formal letter of support and worked closely with USDOT on Dorchester County’s project and announcement timeframe. “This is a major win for Dorchester County,” said Congresswoman Nancy Mace. “As the Lowcountry grows, so does the demand on our roads and infrastructure. This investment will improve safety, reduce congestion, and support long-term economic growth. We worked to move this forward because the people of Dorchester deserve real results, not more delays, studies, or red tape.” We commend Dorchester County and their leadership. The County secured this highly competitive grant, which is a testament to their tireless work. “US Highway 78 is the major transportation corridor that traverses Dorchester County and serves as an employment center and as a hurricane evacuation route for the Lowcountry of South Carolina,” said Dorchester County Council Chairman David Chinnis. “We are excited to receive this BUILD Grant to match Dorchester Transportation Sales Tax, SCDOT, and SCTIB dollars to improve our transportation system and continue to grow the economy.”
