REP. NANCY MACE VOTES IN FAVOR OF RULES PACKAGE

January 9, 2023

Says most open, fair and fiscally conservative package in 30 years but wants to shed light on backroom deals

Washington, D.C. - Tonight, the newly sworn in Members of the 118th Congress voted on the Rules Package of the 118th Congress. This package ensures the House will be more transparent, more fiscally responsible, and more empowered to hold the Administration accountable.

“As I stated yesterday on Face the Nation, this rules package is the most open, fair and fiscally conservative package we’ve seen in 30 years,” said Rep. Mace. “At the end of the day I’m always going to do what’s best for the Lowcountry, our state and nation; but I do want to make a serious point about the entire constitutional process.”

Mace continued, “We spent 4 days holding up the Speaker vote to only make one change to the entire Rules package (changing motion to vacate from 5 to 1). And now there are rumors of backroom deals which may have been cut with a handful of members. If it’s not ok for the far left to cut deals in secret then why is it ok for a few on the far right to cut deals in secret? And at what point do we say we’re going to be better than the last guy? More transparency, more accountability and more policy would go a long way to restoring trust in our Constitutional processes and restoring trust with the American people - and NO BACKROOM DEALS. Period.”
