REP. NANCY MACE VOTES “NO” ON $1.7 TRILLION OMNIBUS SPENDING PACKAGE
Unprecedented Spending Bill is a Total Fail to Addressing Nation’s Major Issues
Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. Nancy Mace voted against passing the FY23 Omnibus bill which contains $1.7 trillion of unchecked spending and fails to address key issues facing the country.
“We know it’s Christmas, but would you really let your friend run up the bar tab and leave you hanging with the bill,” asked Rep. Mace. “The Omnibus doesn’t balance the budget, has no spending offsets and runs up the deficit. And don’t get us started on the waste and pork. We cannot keep doing this. The federal government hasn’t done a true budget in 30 years.”
Some examples of waste and misalignment of issues:
- $12.319 billion for the Internal Revenue Service, on top of the nearly $80 billion provided to the IRS in the Inflation Reduction Act;
- Does not extend Title 42;
- Does not secure the border;
- Increases funding for non-defense programs by a whopping 8%. This includes $12.3 billion for the IRS, on top of the nearly $80 billion given in the Inflation Reduction Act;
- Used as a bailout due to the Administration’s failed immigration and border control - $2.4 billion for refugee and migrant programs;
- Only 300 additional Border Control Agents;
- Additional $100 million for immigration courts, which does not aid our crisis at the border;
- Appropriates $135 billion (or 9.2 percent) above FY 2022 spending levels, and contains no budgetary offsets.
