The House has advanced its mammoth $883.7 billion Defense policy bill for fiscal 2025, legislation comprising a number of controversial measures, including the rehiring of troops kicked out for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine and one giving state governors veto power over a Space Force transfer.

The House passed legislation on Tuesday that aims to reauthorize the Technology Modernization Fund (TMF) until 2031, helping to reinvigorate the Federal government’s investments in technology modernization.

The Modernizing Government Technology Reform Act (MGT Reform Act), introduced late last year by Reps. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., Ro Khanna, D-Calif., and Gerry Connolly, D-Va., passed the House floor on May 21 by voice vote.

The House Armed Services Committee on Wednesday adopted an amendment to the annual defense policy bill that would push the Department of Defense to rehire U.S. service members who were fired for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.

The measure, which would require the Pentagon to create a robust plan for rehiring those service members, was adopted by voice vote as the committee considered a round of amendments for a markup of the 2025 national defense authorization act (NDAA).
