“It’s outrageous to see American communities reeling from Hurricane Helene’s devastation while FEMA, under the Department of Homeland Security, claims to be out of money—after diverting hundreds of millions of dollars to resettle illegal immigrants. Some families are only getting $750. (Washington, D.C., October 4, 2024) – Congresswoman Nancy Mace introduced a new bill today to end FEMA’s Shelter and Services Program (SSP), slamming the program as a wasteful misuse of taxpayer dollars. “Our hearts are broken for the families and communities devastated by Hurricane Helene. With 39 lives lost in our state, and the toll still rising, this is an unimaginable loss. Thank you to our frontline workers for your around-the-clock recovery efforts across South Carolina. Our office will continue to do all we can to support recovery efforts in this difficult time.”
