After relentless pressure, the VA is FINALLY ending its grotesque, costly exp
“After relentless pressure from our office, the VA finally caved and ended its cruel, wasteful experiments on cats and dogs. We've fought tooth and nail with countless bills to put a stop to these inhumane tests and the misuse of taxpayer dollars. This victory is a huge win for our efforts to protect animals and hold the government accountable. A big thanks to White Coat Waste Project for their unwavering support.
Pet lovers in Congress are outraged over a new discovery that the Pentagon is reportedly funding painful experimental drug tests on beagles in pursuit of FDA approval of a pharmaceutical.
A White Coat Waste Project (WCW) investigation found that the Department of Defense has spent nearly $1 million on the testing, which runs through July and involves force-feeding dogs large doses of an experimental drug to treat Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
A bipartisan bill introduced in the House on Thursday would amend the Public Health Service Act to prohibit federal funding for medical research that involves experiments on dogs and cats.
If passed and signed into law, the Preventing Animal Abuse and Waste Act would effectively end nearly all federal funding of tests on cats and dogs.
It would require reports to Congress by the National Institutes of Health and the Government Accountability Office detailing NIH-funded dog and cat experiments, their cost, and assessments of agency efforts to phase them out.
