August marks the very first National Emergency Management Awareness Month, a big step in recognizing the critical role emergency managers play in keeping our communities safe before, during, and after disasters.

Here in the Lowcountry, we know how important that work is. From hurricanes to flooding, our emergency managers are on the front lines, planning and responding when it matters most.

This weekend we delivered the keynote at ECPI University’s commencement, a school who has served Charleston for over 20 years training the next generation in healthcare and tech.
 
Many graduates worked jobs, raised families, and served in uniform while earning their degrees. 
 
One mother walked the stage carrying her child’s ashes.

We supported the Folly Beach Arctic Avenue improvements to make the area safer for everyone: pedestrians, families, beachgoers, drivers, and cyclists alike.

Our office received a letter from Dorchester County recognizing our support in securing over $24 million in federal funding for local transportation and infrastructure projects.

This USDOT grant will not only upgrade roads and improve safety, it will also strengthen the region’s ability to attract and retain businesses, create good-paying jobs, and support long-term economic growth across Dorchester County.
